Artizen, a Web3 culture-focused crowdfunding platform, announced on Thursday that it had raised $2.2 million to assist artists in funding projects that combine art, technology, science, and design.
On Thursday, money was raised by leading Web3 funds such as Consensys Mesh, Animoca Brands, and Protocol Labs, as well as individuals such as Dan Hill of Blank Street Coffee, Matt Condon of PleasrDAO, and Juan Benet, founder and CEO of Protocol Labs.
Artizen creators sell “Artifacts” to raise funds for their projects. Artifacts are one-of-a-kind works of art that exist on the Ethereum blockchain and symbolize the essence of a project by hinting at its potential or showcasing a little portion of how it was created.
Because all of the projects on the site are picked by members of the community, artifact owners can also vote on which projects should be included on Artizen in the future. At the end of each Artizen “season,” the project with the most Artifacts sold receives money. This season’s reward will be $23,492.
A digital-to-physical design studio, a short film about the American immigration system, a cartoon series about late-stage capitalism through the lens of a laundromat casino, and a series of 3D animations about how women perform their gender roles are currently leading projects on Artizen.
Despite the fact that a number of Web3 platforms currently allow creators to sell NFTs to fund projects, Artizen co-founder René Pinnell believes his platform distinguishes out because Artifacts are unique and meaningful works of art in their own right, and their value may rise in tandem with the projects to which they are linked.
“The idea is that these artifacts will appreciate in value based on how much real world impact a project has,” Pinnell explained.
Even while the co-founder does not believe that every Artizen project will revolutionize global culture, he is confident that some will have a significant impact on history and the world.
“Some of [these projects] will be as impactful as Leonardo da Vinci, and so people will want to own these Artifacts,” he predicts.
