On Twitter, Gucci announced, “Continuing to explore the Metaverse, the House joins forces with Yuga Labs.” Warning: a new narrator is about to enter the story.
Due of the high demand and value of NFT collections like Bored Ape Yacht Club, a $1 billion business has developed to provide loans secured by NFTs.
Yuga Labs has defended its IP in court, and it also allows NFT owners to make and sell derivative projects and goods.
A federal magistrate ruled in favor of Yuga Labs last week in a case brought by the firm against the artist Ryder Ripps and his ally Jeremy Cahen, an outcome that Yuga Labs is calling a “landmark legal victory for Web3.” After mocking Yuga’s effort and the Bored Ape Yacht Club, the two friends established their own collection called RR/BAYC.
Based on DappRadar, “investors and enthusiasts should take note of Yuga Labs’ approach,” which involves looking for projects that have a history of delivering on their promises and a doxed staff to ensure responsibility.
Two anonymous Bored Ape Yacht Club creators were outed by a BuzzFeed investigation early last year. Wylie Aronow and Greg Solano were interviewed by Decrypt’s gm podcast in October of last year to talk about how they’ve been steadily increasing their profile.
As Aronow stated, “I kind of view us as a garage band that made it. We’re still just trying to keep that authenticity, and frankly, I’m a little precious about it. We don’t do a lot of PR, we don’t do a ton of interviews, we’re pretty selective about that—just because, to me, that’s just a little bit too rock star.”
