The Polygon zkEVM sidechain’s core developers asked Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin to carry out the first transaction, which carried a secret message, to commemorate the beginning of the network’s long-awaited mainnet.
The following message was encoded in hex code when Buterin built the transaction: “A few million constraints for man, unconstrained scalability for mankind.”
Buterin attended a livestreamed ceremony to commemorate the occasion.
The Ethereum network transaction gas limit was also set to 69,042, possibly in reference to the number 69 and a nearly identical meme number (420). Sanket Shah, the head of growth at Polygon Labs, stated on Twitter that the founder of Ethereum is now a “man of culture” due to the gas constraint.

“And just like that, Vitalik Buterin has completed the first transaction on the newly deployed Polygon zkEVM chain,” Polygon Labs President Ryan Wyatt said this this morning. “This is a big moment for scaling decentralized protocols to handle our growth.”
The next-generation blockchain network, Polygon zkEVM, is advertised as being able to conduct transactions more quickly and affordably than Ethereum’s mainnet.
A zkEVM combines Ethereum Virtual Machine compatibility with zero-knowledge rollups, in contrast to earlier layer-2 and sidechain networks (which package up loads of transactions and execute those proofs onto Ethereum). As a result, it can be inferred that zkEVM is a logical addition to Ethereum and that smart contracts, which include the software necessary for decentralized protocols and applications, may be simply transferred to the zkEVM network.
Before today’s launch, Polygon co-founder Mihailo Bjelic said that zkEVM was the “Holy Grail” of blockchain scalability.
The rival zkSync launched its mainnet a week ahead of schedule, therefore it is not the only zkEVM network under development.
