Over 7,000 Wallets Are Affected by the Solana Attack—Every Affected Platform

Since Tuesday night, when a huge cyberattack started, more than 7,000 wallets have been emptied of millions of dollars worth of Solana and USD Coin (USDC).

The attack doesn’t just seem to be happening to Solana, since another user said that their USDC balance was also drained.

The business says that around 7,767 Solana wallets were affected.

What Is Solana?

Solana is a fast blockchain network that mostly trades its own coin, called SOL.

The price of SOL dropped from around $40 to $38.66 in the eight hours after the attack.

When did Solana get tricked?
Tuesday night, the platform was hacked, but the attack is still going on. The source of the attack is unknown, but it was thought that it came from the Phantom Solana browser wallet and that user keys were lost as a result.

“Engineers from many different ecosystems are looking into Solana’s empty wallets with the help of many security companies. There is no evidence that hardware wallets have been hacked “Late Tuesday night, Solana sent out a tweet.

“Hardware wallets are what users should use. A hardware wallet only lets you use your seed phrase once. Make a completely new seed phrase. Empty wallets should be thought of as lost or stolen.” The company got bigger.

A Twitter user named foobar said that wallets that hadn’t been used in more than six months were affected by the hack.
Magic Eden, a market for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), admitted the breach and said that it “appears to be a broad SOL attack emptying wallets throughout the ecosystem.”

It told Phantom wallet users to stop authorizing any URLs that seemed sketchy.

As a temporary fix, Solana users have been told to turn off access to everything and move their money to a hardware wallet or a centralized custodial exchange.

Other blockchains are working together to figure out what caused the breach and how big it is.

A spokesperson for the Ethereum wallet MetaMask said, “We are actively talking with the wallet teams that were affected to offer our help and see if there is anything we can do to protect our customers.”
