Jonathan Koon, a fashion designer, has worked with the retail-focused metaverse world Highstreet to create a “phygital” experience at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Selfridges, and a number of other stores that is meant to “transport consumers into the metaverse.”

Most often heard, seldom seen Koon’s newest line, 8-Bit, is real clothing that has a redeemable non-fungible token sewn into it (NFT). Each item in the collection has a QR code sewn into it. In Highstreet, users are shown how to make their digital avatars by scanning the code, which has copies of the 8-bit things they bought. Once on Highstreet, players will be given $HIGH tokens, which are the local currency of the metaverse, so they can start exploring the digital world.

Shoppers can also mint their 8-Bit clothing into NFTs, which creates a permanent record of their ownership and gives them access to digital resale marketplaces like OpenSea and LooksRare. See how it all works by watching the video.

Jenny Guo, co-founder of Highstreet, said in a statement, “With this launch, we want to bring more traditional customers who don’t use blockchain into the Web3 world.” “Department stores all over the world are the key to the Highstreet metaverse today. “Every step of the process is based on something we all do: buying things we already like.”

The brand is sold online and in stores by Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, and Beymen. Prices for the collection range from $120 to $275, and there are plans for more limited-edition collaborations.
