KIA offers NFTs to viewers who scan QR code

KIA America is releasing a collection of NFTs for its marketing campaign for its new 2023 KIA Soul.

There are now 10,100 Kia America-themed NFT tokens available via the Sweet NFT phase, that will run until November 30th. To get one of these NFT tokens, viewers have to scan a QR code with the Sweet NFT app on their smartphone.

The marketing strategy, named “Build for Whoever You Are,” consists of a 30-second spot highlighting the NFT characters. It features 3 of the most well-known personalities riding in the new 2023 Kia Souls.

The NFTs are part of a larger series, named the Dead Army Skeleton Club (DASK), that involves more than 150 hand-drawn features. The 10,000 KIA America NTFs were inspired by the new Kia Soul 2023 and the other NFTs featured in the ad.

Kia America’s vice president of marketing, Russell Wagner, stated that the company was interested about the potential of blockchain technology to “disrupt the automotive industry.”

This is not the initial time KIA America has collaborated with Sweet. In 2017, KIA America cooperated with Sweet to create an exclusive NFT named “Robo Dog,” inspired by KIA’s Super Bowl commercial featuring a robot dog.

The automobile industry is embracing Web3

KIA America is not the only ambitious automaker in Web3. A few days ago, Nissan Motors announced that it will launch its new all-electric SUV Ariya in the metaverse. This eco-friendly model will be visible in the Nissan’s virtual showroom, the Nissan Electric Lab, through desktop, mobile, and virtual reality.

Additionally, different automotive companies investing in NFTs, blockchain technology, and metaverse were covered in news. Below are some headlines about automakers and dealers in Web3 this year:

• Ripple & Lotus Cars cooperate for NFT series
• CarForCoin sells luxury cars as NFTs
• Hyundai files new trademark for NFTs and VR
• Volvo will showcase initial all-electric SUV in the Metaverse
• Chevy reveals NFT auction for IRL Corvette Z06

We will wait to see if KIA’s NFT marketing campaign for the 2023 KIA Soul will be successful. But one thing is obvious: There is no lack of interest in Web3 from the automotive industry.
