Topps is releasing NFTs for MLB AII-Star Week

The Topps Inc., a division of Fanatics Collectibles, lately revealed different Web3 designs centered around the MLB All-Star Week 2022, that starts the current Saturday and continues until Tuesday. To celebrate the event, Topps is releasing a series of MLB All-Star Game NFTs, and other Web3 games and initiatives.

Some of these initiatives involve on-site unique MLB All-Star giveaways, limited-edition prizes to users of the Topps BUNT MLB Card Trader app, and post-event series challenges which combine All-Star Game results and Home Run Derby.

The All-Star Game, along with the All-Star Futures Game and Home Run Derby, will be held at Dodger Stadium in LA on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Below is more information about the NFT series from Topps:

  • The NFTs will feature California-inspired themes: the beach, stars, palm trees, and retro wave designs.
  • The NFTs range in rarity from uncommon to legendary
  • The players voted for in the initial round of the All-Star fan voting will be announced.

Interactive games, including digital collectibles, will be available on the Topps Bunt MLB Card Trader app as well. Users can get a special Topps BUNT digital collectible pack along with several physical prizes such as commemorative pins and posters. And for fans attending the event, Topps is offering free 2022 Topps MLB All-Star Game Event NFTs on July 16 at the Topps Pavilion at the Capital One Play Ball Park.

MLB slides into Web3

As NFTs and the Metaverse provide new ways for businesses and superstars to communicate with fans and companies such as Topps to recreate sports collectibles, sports leagues have been at the head of many Web 3 and blockchain-based projects in the current year. And as the NBA might be conducting the way, the MLB isn’t far behind.

It was reported previously that the MLB would release its ICON Leadoff NFT series during the 2022 MLB season. Like MLB’s ICON 2021 NFTs, this collection of 2022 NFTs is available on the ETH-based platform Candy Digital.

A few months ago, it was reported that MLB had partnered with Sorare to create an NFT-based fantasy baseball title. The game will feature NFT trading cards of IRL athletes. Though no release date has been set, it is expected to go live later this summer.

And the league is not the only entity bullish on baseball’s NFTs. Individual teams are also entering Web3 spaces. Earlier in the year, the Seattle Mariners released a series of NFTs named the Seattle Steelhead NFTs, and the Chicago Cubs revealed a Web3’s collaboration with Valence to bring their stadium to the Metaverse.
