Pringles is hiring for the metaverse

The “once you pop, you cannot stop” chip-maker is stepping into the metaverse. Pringles is apparently paying a gamer $25,000 to play an NPC, or “non-player character” in Train Sim World 2. The winner will come from a sweepstakes, and Pringles will choose them on July 11.

The investment in Train Sim World 2 is Pringle’s initial intends to capitalizing on the hype of the metaverse, that is a shared social space created for virtual and AR. The metaverse usually expands to games which feature characters that move freely, like Decentraland and The Sandbox.

The sweepstakes are part of a larger “Stay in the Game” marketing campaign which joins the chip-maker with Gray London, an advertising agency. The campaign seeks to honor gamers dating back to the 1980s. As reported by the “Stay in the Game” website, the “heart” of the gaming movement is a “Pringlesonic chip,” an 8-bit iteration of a potato chip created via binary sound.

There is no exact news yet on what role the gamer will play in Train Sim World 2 when they win the sweepstakes. It is worth saying that the game includes players operating some of the most complicated train routes in the world., making it a copy of some kind. $25,000 does not look like a small amount to play as an NPC, and this is definitely one of the most interesting open metaverse positions.
