WEF 2022: According to the vice president of LEGO, the metaverse must be designed with children in mind. The vice president of the Lego Group believes that the metaverse will be a disruptive force that alters how people, especially children, learn.
The fifth day of the current World Economic Forum was dominated by discussions on the metaverse and Web3 (WEF).
Philip Rosedale, Pascal Kaufmann, Peggy Johnson, Hoda AlKhzaimi, and Edward Lewin took part in a panel discussion entitled “The Possibilities of the Metaverse.”
Components of the metaverse’s construction and future potential dominated discussion. The presenters discussed the technical aspects, security, and significance of human emotions in the creation of a long-term, augmented reality-based digital world.
Peggy Johnson, CEO of augmented reality development company Magic Lap, reacted to a question about metaverse improvements by stating, “it remains in its infancy, but innovation is unquestionably progressing toward a digital future.”
She went on to claim that augmented reality is being employed in the medical industry, and that the metaverse would simplify a range of complex jobs.
The Vice President of Global Affairs for the Lego Group discussed the future of the metaverse for children. He said, “One in three people using the internet are young adults and children, so I would really focus on building from kids’ perspective, given they are the future users.”
Using a volcano as an example, he went on to describe how augmented reality may impact how children learn today. He said that learning about a volcano from a two-dimensional book and witnessing it in augmented reality are two completely different experiences, and that “augmented reality may be a fantastic method for future generations to learn.”
Assistant professor of research at New York University Abu Dhabi, Hoda AlKhzaimi, believes the metaverse will be a hub for “knowledge and resource interconnection.” In order to develop a robust digital environment, she also underlined the need of opposing existing systems. She stated:
“We need to rebel against the existing technological system be it the current computer codes or rules to build a formidable metaverse.”
According to Mindfire Foundation president Pascal Kaufmann, the metaverse will be inclusive, disruptive, and a place to reinvent science.
Panelists agreed on the necessity to create an environment that prioritizes individual privacy and security while enabling individuals to be themselves.
