LG electronics wants patent for TV that enables NFT trading

Since 2020, LG has been in charge of a server on the Hedera Network.

LG is pursuing patent protection for a television that enables the trading of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The device would be able to connect to an NFT market server, receive preview artwork, and make purchases using the user’s cryptocurrency wallet, which would be linked to the TV.

LG started putting NFTs on its TVs last September when it released its Art Lab marketplace, which was connected to the Hedera Network. LG has been a node provider on Hedera Network since 2020.

The decision to file for a patent indicates that LG anticipates continued consumer demand for NFTs and sees a business rationale for making them more accessible.

The South Korean company is not the only electronics behemoth to recognize the potential of incorporating NFTs into televisions. In January 2022, Samsung released an NFT marketplace on three of its televisions, supported by Nifty Gateway.
