Rosario Dawson joins NFT-supported anime series ‘Ghosts of Ruin’ from Gala

The pilot for “Ghosts of Ruin” will be shown first to NFT holders, and then it will be shown to viewers.

Rosario Dawson and Tony Revolori are scheduled to star in the Western anime series Ghosts of Ruin, produced by Gala Film, the entertainment division of Web3 startup Gala Games.

Ghosts of Ruin follows a group of gamers as they navigate a potentially lethal tournament in a near-future dystopian San Francisco where games are synced directly into participants’ minds and are indistinguishable from reality.

The series will have original music from Hans Zimmer’s Bleeding Fingers collective. It will be made by the new media content company Battle Island.

Dawson, who played the Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming limited series Ashoka, will voice Prism, a standoffish pro gamer who is determined to win the competition.

Revolori, who was in the 2014 Wes Anderson movie The Grand Budapest Hotel and the latest Spider-Man movies from Marvel Studios, will voice the main character of the series, Lee, a casual gamer who joins the contest at the last minute.

First episode of “Ghosts of Ruin” premiering in August for NFT holders

The first episode of Ghosts of Ruin is scheduled to premiere on Gala’s platform in August. However, it will only be available to those who have purchased specialized NFTs to support the show’s creation. These NFTs have been divided into four tiers and will provide different levels of interactive access to the series.

The basic tier called “The Coder” costs $250 worth of GALA tokens and provides access to the show, exclusive content, and other digital collectibles. The top tier, “The Board Member,” sold 45 passes for $2,500 worth of GALA each, granting holders a chance to participate in the show’s production as a character or contributor.

Following its premiere on Gala Film, the producers of the series are aiming to present it as a proof of concept to a leading streaming platform.

“It was important for us to support this project. We believe in the genre, the team’s approach and the series is a perfect melding of timely storytelling with top-tier artistic talent,” Gala Film CEO Sara Buxton said in a statement.

Michael Ryan, who most recently served as the showrunner for the Apple TV+ original animated series Wolfboy and The Everything Factory, is the showrunner and writer for Ghosts of Ruin. The series was conceived by PJ Accetturo and Ryan Ramsey of Battle Island.

Danny Trejo and Mena Suvari joined the cast of RZR, a Web3-native series from Gala that will debut exclusively on the startup’s platform this summer.

The crypto exchange Coinbase abruptly announced last week that it would no longer support an upgraded version of Gala’s GALA token, without providing an explanation.
