LeBron James, a famous NBA player, was seen wearing RTFKT x Nike sneakers that can only be bought through an Ethereum NFT.
LeBron James, undoubtedly the most famous basketball player in the world today, was photographed wearing limited-edition Nike sneakers that can only be acquired by minting an Ethereum NFT developed by Nike subsidiary RTFKT. And it appears that the RTFKT founders also presented the living legend with his very own Clone X NFT avatar.
LeBron James spotted wearing RTFKT x Nike sneakers
On Tuesday, prior to the Los Angeles Lakers’ Game 1 triumph over the Golden State Warriors in the NBA’s Western Conference Semifinals, James was seen wearing the RTFKT x Nike Air Force 1 Genesis sneakers.
The Lakers posted a picture of James wearing the black and red sneakers, along with a picture of teammate Anthony Davis. The photo soon went viral among RTFKT NFT holders, and then the company, which was acquired by Nike in December 2021, tweeted it along with a close-up image of the shoes.
Not long after, one of the co-founders of RTFKT named Steven “Zaptio” Vasilev, posted a photo of himself and the COO of RTFKT, Nikhil Gopalani, giving an honorary Clone X avatar to LeBron James. Vasilev mentioned that they were able to welcome James to RTFKT with his own unique Clone X avatar.
The RTFKT x Nike Air Force 1 Genesis is a limited-edition collection of 1,776 pairs of sneakers that can only be acquired by purchasing an NFT and redeeming it for the physical product. On OpenSea, the secondary market price for Genesis NFTs begins at 0.4 ETH, or $740. According to an official FAQ, the physical sneakers can only be redeemed until May 8.
RTFKT and Nike have created various styles of NFT-based sneakers under their collaboration, including the RTFKT x Nike Air Force 1. These sneakers are available in different quantities and at various prices in the secondary market. The “Alien” style is the most limited edition, with only 60 pairs available. The design features a neon twist on the traditional yellow and purple Lakers’ color scheme. The starting price for this style is 5 ETH ($9,245).
In 2021, RTFKT and Takashi Murakami released Clone X, an Ethereum NFT profile picture (PFP) project. According to CryptoSlam, it has generated $835 million in trade volume.
Last September, RTFKT changed the information for a single Clone X NFT so that it had a “LBJ Beard” and a yellow and purple crown, which no other NFT in the collection had.
