Popular animated series With the publication of a new collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from the Smurf Society, the three-apple-tall characters are expanding their reach to Web3.

Why do we like the Smurfs? One of the things that made the intellectual property (IP) appealing was that it had a wide Web2 spread with “94% recognition globally.”

Arthur Salkin, co-founder and CMO told that the Smurfs are well-known not only in Belgium, where the comics started, but also across Europe, the U.S., and China, where they are liked for their sense of community and willingness to work together.

Frédéric Montagnon, another co-founder of the Smurfs Society who works on marketing for the brand, liked this idea a lot. Montagnon views the Smurfs as the optimal partner for transitioning Web2 fans to Web3 by means of an inclusive and welcoming community. The Smurfs’ reputation as a pleasant, approachable brand that emphasizes caring for others was an enormous draw.

“We see NFTs as creating a community that doesn’t have borders,” Romanetto said. “Web3 provides less hassle and all the freedom to connect with others and provide digital sovereignty, which is very important.”

“You can identify with Smurfs,” Salkin remarked, indicating that future character designs will be even more inclusive. Salkin praised Cedric Hervet, the creative director of Daft Punk, for enlisting renowned 3D artists to bring the Smurf profile pictures (PFPs) to life.

Over the past year, The Smurfs Society has been growing with a small, closed group of people who have been testing the game-like Smurfy world that has been made on Polygon.

These early adopters were given Crystals, which can be traded on secondary markets like OpenSea and will give them entry to a discounted allow-list sale after the public bucket auction.

A portion of the gaming experience emphasized education in quests.

“Every day you had the opportunity to mint some ingredients and if you picked the right ingredients you could mint a potion and create a crystal,” Montagnon explained. “So there could be a quest that helped you understand what you needed to mint and how it worked with blockchain technology.”
