Metaverse Fashion Week: the Details

Last week was Metaverse Fashion Week 2023. It had high-end brands, meta parties, virtual panels, problems, and user concerns.

From March 28 to March 31, about 60 firms, artists, and designers took part in the Decentraland event. In 2022, there were 70 of them.

It had clothes from Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, DRESSX, which sells 3D clothes from well-known brands, and young designers like Bradley Sharpe.

It received more than 108,000 visitors in 2022, even though Google search trends showed that people were less interested in the metaverse this year.

To get people to come, MVFW23 had to go big. It did well thanks to the first cross-metaverse virtual hub from Tommy Hilfiger and the immersive store from Hugo Boss.

I was excited to click “jump in” to join Metaverse Fashion Week 2023 for “runway shows, after-parties, immersive experiences, shopping, and much more.”

Panels, collectibles and glitches

There were bright projector lights, dancing 3D characters, fast-paced music, and purple and pink backgrounds at MVFW23.

On Neo Plaza Road, the Vogue Singapore Panel was held at the Cash Labs Gallery, which was made by the Web3 agency Cash Labs. I was given #5147.

On the NFT marketplace Rarible, the items on display could be bid on with digital tokens. On Rarible’s website, it says that half of the money will go to charities for women around the world.

David Cash, the founder of Cash Labs, Dr. Giovanna Graziosi Casimiro, the head of metaverse Fashion Week, Krista Kim, a metaverse artist and co-founder of web 3.0 innovation lab 0.xyz, and Aurora Townsend, the founder and chief marketing officer of VR data app Planet Theta and mobile video games company Firefly Games, talked about how to connect in virtual spaces.

“We are connecting our inner child to the avatar…the very act of choosing what our avatar will look like is almost an act of radical self-realisation,” says Kim.

Do the avatars at the event help people express themselves? Even serious dressers could only choose from 33 hairstyles and two body types that were already made.

The winner of the Digital Fashion Competition at Vogue Singapore will be featured in the magazine and shown at Club Vogue Singapore on http://Spatial.io .

When someone clicked ote,” the page crashed and showed a lot of error messages, which made me give up on my goal.

Another problem was that tourists couldn’t take the elevator down from the Vogue floor, so I jumped out of the building.

People in chat talked about problems with minting and viewing panels. Usually, people were told to “reload the page.”

As the visitors thought about MVFW23’s exclusive communications, Decentraland crashed. again crashed.

Visitors waited and went to the front desk to see the brands. They  Visitors stayed busy while they were exploring the planet by playing games, solving puzzles, and collecting points.

Many of the things that could be worn could be bought, and many of them were used in the Dear Vivienne Anti-Fashion Catwalk and Photoshoot.

Vogue gave out limited NFT artworks by phygital fashion pioneer Ilona Song as tickets to a private fashion show in Milan that was hosted through the OVER metaverse network. Diesel and HAPE also gave visitors wearable NFT airdrops.

As people clicked the “info” button on Decentraland’s upcoming events, they were taken to a third-party technology provider. This left several panels with only a title and a broken link.

The last part of MVFW23 was the long-awaited runway shows. Dolce & Gabbana had cats in fancy clothes walk the catwalk, while Adidas had models walk upside down on the ceiling. A lot of people try to crash into the runway

Metaverse is not ready yet

Metaverse Fashion Week 2023 let online users connect with a high-end event. It gave brand fans and retailers a sense of community and brought them together through virtual out-of-this-world experiences.

“People used to think that you need to be in Paris or Milan…but now people all around the world can participate in these things,” has said Lode Groosman, chief commercial officer of Threedium during a panel entitled “utilising the Metaverse to build community.”

Still, MVFW23 invited people to a space that was broken and not fully finished. The best parts were ruined by anger and frustration.
