Immutable Games and Bazooka Tango are taking on the challenge of reviving the 2017 turn-based tactical collectible card game Shardbound, which was released with incomplete features and is now considered a “dead game.” The plan is to add Web3 features and money to it to give it a new life and bring back players.
Shardbound is like Hearthstone and Teamfight Tactics in that players use virtual cards to fight in a 3D arena. Even though people liked the game when it came out in Early Access, the original development team, Spiritwalk Games, had trouble getting sufficient funding to finish it
The game was put on Steam, which doesn’t allow NFT games, and now there is only one player online at the same time every week.
Bo Daly, who is the CEO of Bazooka Tango, has been watching Shardbound’s development since the beginning. He is excited to work on a new version of the game with Web3 features. Daly hasn’t said which platforms the new version will be available on, but he hopes to use the PC gamers who played the original game.
Immutable support
Immutable Games is taking a hands-on approach to making the game and giving a complete strategy and plan for Web3 gaming from start to finish. Shardbound will be one of the first games on the new Immutable zkEVM network, which is based on Polygon’s open-source zkEVM technology.
This means that Shardbound’s NFT transactions will happen on a network that is compatible with Ethereum and where purchases can be bundled to make processing faster and fees lower.
Even though Shardbound is having trouble keeping its audience, the team thinks that hundreds of thousands of game accounts were made. Daly and Immutable Games hope that adding blockchain technology and NFTs will help bring players back and make the game more fun. The company that owns Steam, Valve, has not said what they think about NFTs or Web3 games.
