Polygon Labs and Immutable partner to expand Web3 gaming ecosystem

Immutable zkEVM will combine Polygon’s technology with Immutable’s gaming platform to create a home for Web3 game developers centered on Ethereum.

Polygon and Immutable, two titans in the Ethereum scaling space, are joining forces to create a new Web3 gaming network powered by Polygon’s anticipated zkEVM technology.

Immutable, a platform for making Web3 games, is teaming up with Polygon Labs, a blockchain protocol, to speed up the process of making Web3 games.

Today, Polygon Labs and Immutable announced a “strategic alliance” to make Immutable zkEVM, a new Ethereum scaling network that will combine the soon-to-be-launched Polygon zkEVM technology with the Immutable platform for blockchain-based games.

“By combining the number one Web3 gaming platform – currently serving hundreds of game studios and millions of players – with Polygon’s best-in-class zkEVM technology, we are building an Ethereum-centric gaming ecosystem that is poised to take Web3 mainstream and bring digital ownership to millions of people around the world,” said Robbie Ferguson, Immutable president and co-founder.

Both Immutable and Ethereum have worked to grow the Web3 gaming industry by adding new tools and forming partnerships with big companies. In June, Immutable opened a $500 million venture fund for Web3 games, and in July, Polygon opened a business unit for Web3 games.

In January, Immutable released an all-in-one passport system to make it easier for Web3 gamers to sign up and manage their accounts. Last month, gaming engine Unity added support for Immutable X to its developer toolkit.

Square Enix, the company that makes the Final Fantasy video game collections, is working with Polygon to make a project called a non-fungible token (NFT). Nike, Reddit, and Starbucks are just a few of the big names that have partnered with Polygon. In the meantime, Immutable has worked with GameStop, DC Comics, and Marvel to make over 140 new games for the existing platform.
