District 9 director’s next game will be built on ‘GunZ’

District 9 director’s next game will be built on ‘GunZ’

Gunzilla’s next multiplayer battle royale shooter game, called Off The Grid (OTG), will have an NFT platform called GunZ.

GunZ will let players buy new items from other players by using blockchain technology to let them trade in-game items. Gunzilla, on the other hand, says that trading is completely optional and that the studio wouldn’t put a barrier in front of progress or other features. Also, Gunzilla says that it will never offer NFTs directly to gamers.

Gunzilla has stuck to the GunZ platform because users don’t get to keep the in-game stuff they earned or paid for in free-to-play games today. For example, if a game is shut down for good, the player loses any time or money they put into it.

“You do not, and cannot, own anything. Anyone can read the EULA of any game to verify this. If you’re banned, for example, any item can be taken away from you, even if your ban is accidental. When you stop playing any free-to-play game, the money you’ve put in also disappears,” Gunzilla CEO Vlad Korolev explained in a statement.

“We are re-inventing the system, putting the power back in the hands of gamers, and are using blockchain technology to make this happen. With OTG and GunZ, we are creating a universe that will set a new standard for the industry.”

NFTs have been a source of trouble in the gaming business for a long time. Because NFT is bad for the environment, some developers, like Landfall Games, have signed a pledge against it. Minecraft has also said that it will not allow NFTs or blockchain technology on its platform. Sony gauged attendees’ interest in NFTs last week at EVO 2022.

The director of District 9, Neill Blomkamp, has joined Gunzilla as Chief Visionary Officer to help with the studio’s first game. When we talked to him last month, he didn’t say that the game had NFTs.
