Wharton business school starts 6-week metaverse course

The Aresti Institute of Executive Education at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School lately revealed the release of an online course named Business in the Metaverse Economy.

The program is being released in partnership with Prysm Group, an economic consulting firm which concentrates on emerging and growing technologies. This course is offered to all kinds of business and technology professionals who like to know more about the metaverse and its related technologies.

It will be a six-week crash that is part of a Wharton certification program and want to help developers, businesses, and professionals understand how they can use and benefit from Metaverse in the future.

Majorly, the class will include six industry case studies and a set of lectures from industry and Wharton faculty. Besides, there will be guest speakers from Animoca Brand, Snap, Magic Leap, Second Life, Unity, and other major Web3 players. Due to the online format, students can study at their own pace.

The move to the Web3 theme makes Wharton the initial Ivy League business school to release a program on metaverse tech. The Business in the Metaverse Economy course is presently open for limited registry. Its initial cohort will start on September 12, 2022.

Education in the metaverse

As reported by consulting firm McKinsey & Company, the global metaverse industry could create $5 trillion in revenue by 2030. Schools and companies are starting to understand and invest in the Metaverse and Web3 education.

One of these companies is Meta, formerly known as Facebook. The previous month, it was reported that the social media giant had collaborated with Simplon, a French digital education company, to bring Web3 to higher education. The two plan to open “Metaverse Academies” across France, where students will train becoming expert immersive technology developers and technician assistants. The initial academies planned for Paris, Marseille, Lyon, and Nice.

In other Metaverse education news, the University of Tokyo is presenting Metaverse courses to high school students and adult workers. Students will be offered official certificates upon completion of the course, which will concentrates on the metaverse and related technologies. This university said: “We hope to solve the problem of a lack of Metaverse workers by training new students”.

Both Facebook and the University of Tokyo stated that they hope to interest female students to their programs, which have been normally underrepresented in Web3.

We will have to wait and see if Wharton’s Metaverse course is successful. But it’s so existence suggests that the metaverse, and the trillions it could create, is becoming a reality which business leaders and schools must try to understand.
