Old Sport is the first actual speakeasy that can only be reached through NFT. Their genesis token, which you can buy on July 27 at oldsport.xyz, is a membership card to a bar with dimly lit corners and delicious drinks. Membership is limited to 1,920 people, and each member can bring three guests to the secret, private bar that Old Sport will open in Los Angeles in early 2023.
At the beginning of 2023, they will open their first speakeasy.
The creators
It was made by Addison Kowalski. He has made product experiences for Disney, Star Wars, Blue Bottle Coffee, and many other companies. He was also one of the people who started the website EightBit.Me.
He is what people call a “Old Soul.” Like other people who like the music and style of the 1920s through the 1950s, he likes a nice craft drink. So much so that in 2015, he made an app called Old Sport that helps you make cocktails.
The idea was simple: use things from your own bar to learn how to make drinks from the time of Prohibition.
The night he put his little app on the market A small group of my friends came over to help me celebrate. They met at his small apartment in Los Feliz, where he spent the night mixing drinks and listening to Artie Shaw, Sidney Bechet, and Hoagy Carmichael. When they were feeling their best, they decided to call it a night.
A year and a half later, when people went to his small apartment, they were met by DJ Babyshoe, who was playing records from the 1920s to the 1940s. One-dollar bets could be made at a blackjack table to his left. He kept making drinks and watching old black-and-white movies on a small TV. The crowd went to a friend’s apartment next door, where there was a photo booth and another bartender, Philly, making drinks. They sometimes needed more space, so they moved to new sites.
Addison wanted people to have a great night with old friends. He wanted Old Sport to become a real bar one day. This is not your average bar. Something different and unique. People were drawn to a place with a hidden door that led to an exciting, unknown future.
