The Drum has created the first awards in the world to honor the best creativity, innovation, people, and performance in metaverse, web3, and NFT activations. The judges come from Journey, Meta, and R/GA.
Even though some people say the metaverse is just a buzzword, there’s no doubt that marketers and agencies are spending a lot of time and money (if not money, then time) to learn more about this new area.
Nike says that many well-known marketers, like L’Oréal and Louis Vuitton, have set up teams to manage projects, and that millions of people spend time in Nikeland, the company’s metaverse realm. One of the biggest advertising companies in the world, Publicis, said that hundreds of its employees are now working on metaverse projects for clients.
They are starting The Drum Awards for the Metaverse to recognize and honor the best work done by brands and agencies in the metaverse.

Cathy Hackl, who is the chief metaverse officer and co-founder of the innovation and design firm Journey, will be in charge of the jury. She will be helped by a group of very smart and experienced judges.
Hackl is a well-known expert on the metaverse, a tech futurist, and a corporate leader with years of experience in fields related to the metaverse. She is also known as “the metaverse’s mother.” She has helped companies like Magic Leap, Amazon Web Services, and HTC VIVE by giving them advice.
The woman said, “I’m proud to be working closely with The Drum and a small group of respected judges to find and honor genius in the web3 and metaverse age.”
It’s important to recognize the great things these early pioneers did and how they’re still looking for new ways to be innovative, even as more businesses and communities grow through virtual worlds, NFTs, and even virtual fashion.
Alongside Hackl on the jury are:
Ben Ferguson, who is in charge of operations and marketing at Soundscape VR,
Charli Cohen runs Charli-Cohen and is in charge of its creative direction.
Inder Phull is the CEO and co-founder of Pixelynx.
The Immersive Kind was started by and is run by Kadine James.
Mehta Mehta is the worldwide executive creative director for Hogarth Worldwide.
Pico Velasquez made Viira and is the CEO of the company.
Sahar Lewenstein is in charge of creative marketing for Overwolf.
Caitlin Ryan is the Vice President of Meta’s creative shop.
Web3 infrastructure consultant Irina Karagyaur, NFT Unique Alliance
Nick Rosa is in charge of extended reality and metaverse strategy for EMEA and APAC at Accenture.
Sam Field, who is in charge of creative technologies at Yahoo RYOT Studios,
Tom Morton, who is the chief strategy officer for R/worldwide GA,
Before the awards ceremony in the beginning of 2023, more judges will be named.
“Whether you are for or against it, whether you think it’s hype or not, the metaverse is going nowhere. Evidenced by the views of engagement The Drum has seen on metaverse-led content, we can confidently say that this part of the industry has gotten the attention of brands and agencies that are innovating in the space. The awards will serve to recognize the people, the companies and the campaigns that are cutting through,” said Lynn Lester, managing director of events at The Drum.
