In Vienna, there is a unique installation that shows a metaverse universe from the point of view of a virtual person named La Turbo Avedon.
La Turbo Avedon was born in the Second Life metaverse in 2008/09. She is an avatar, an artist, and a curator.
The Remission Our Dust exhibition is a reference to the tagline that websites used in the 1990s to show that they were under construction. It is a virtual gallery of digital sculptures, images, and movies that symbolizes the building of a free digital world.
The collection was put together by an unnamed artist. It has five displays that work together to reflect a central projector.
LaTurbo Avedon criticizes how the Internet seems to be spread out and commercialized, as well as how the commercial history of the real world is repeated online.
The sculptures and landscapes in the exhibition are all based on well-known video games like Final Fantasy and Minecraft. They are all part of a complex simulation in the metaverse.
LaTurbo Avedon is a non-binary character who shows how gender identities are becoming less rigid in both the real world and the metaverse as the line between the two worlds gets smaller.
Until September 25, people can see the show at the Vienna MAK – Museum of Applied Arts.
