Dead or Alive creator releases NFT-based game warrior

Tomonobu Itagaki, the creator of the popular video game Dead or Alive and the post-2004 Ninja Gaiden collection, has revealed the release of Apex Game Studios, that will concentrate on NFTs, blockchain-based games, and the metaverse.

As reported by Itagaki, Apex Game Studios will concentrate on high-quality immersive 3A Web3 games and has currently “incubated” its initial massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) named Warrior.

Warrior will feature dynamic gameplay and a play-to-earn (P2E) structure; thus, users can earn cryptocurrencies and potentially profit from the game. Built using the Unreal Engine, the game is a futuristic game where warriors fight in a “new and unknown continent”.

Both PvE and PvP game modes are available in Warrior, and WGT crypto tokens can be earned as players by conquering continents and completing missions. In addition, the WDT governance token enables holders to vote or propose proposals within the WarriorDAO.

As a blockchain-based game, most of the digital assets that players can earn in the game are NFTs. Also, Virtual real estate is available and adds an essential component to the metaverse.

With the announcement of Warrior and upcoming projects from the studio, Itagaki hopes to improve performance, security, and stability issues in blockchain games. The beta version of Warrior is expected in the third quarter of 2022, and the full version is expected soon after that.

Blockchain-based games are growing

Apart from the downward in crypto prices and some gamers’ criticism of blockchain-based games, game developers are moving towards Web3 at a surprising pace. It was reported many times on many of Web3 projects and game company investments in the current year.

Here are some recent gaming and web3 titles:

  • GameStop releases gaming NFT marketplace on Loopring
  • Gaming creator of PUBG Krafton steps into NFTs and Metaverse
  • Immutable releases $500 Million Fund for NFTs and Gaming
  • Magic Eden released Web3 Venture Arm
  • A16z builds a $600 million gaming fund
  • NFT game publisher Animoca Brands raises $75 million.

Unsurprisingly, the gaming industry is bullish on Web 3 and the Metaverse. Blockchain-based games enable players to purchase, sell, and trade NFTs, earn in cryptocurrencies, and get more immersive experiences in virtual and AR- based worlds. And regarding Bloomberg research, gaming could account for $400 billion in Metaverse revenue by 2024.

Currently, the only thing holding the industry back in Web3 are gamers themselves, who have criticized blockchain-based games for being overly profit-driven as doing nothing to improve gameplay. Itagaki promised that Apex Game Studios will concentrate on performance, so probably the new game Warrior will help change some naysayers’ minds.
