NFTs might appear in games, according to Nike

On June 30, Nike Inc. sent the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) a patent application to use NFTs in a “video game integration.

Nike has applied for a patent on a way to show a “virtual item” like a “virtual shoe, piece of clothing, headgear, avatar, or pet” in a game. In other parts of the petition, it sounds like Nike plans to sell the shoes and clothes that the NFTs represent.

In June 2022, daily sales of NFTs hit their lowest point in the past year.

The document says that a retailer wants to “directly influence and control the nature and final supply of digital goods in this virtual market.” This suggests that Nike is worried about fake digital collectibles.

Because most games let players make their own characters, they can become “more involved with a brand in the real world.”
