Leiomy Maldonado, a judge of HBO “Legendary” dance competition, has officially stepped into the Metaverse. She joined Meta on its Horizon Workrooms series, which discovers the intersection between futuristic technologies and the culture of in need or underrepresented populations.
In many of Leiomy interviews, she described how wired it would be to do them in virtual reality. VR is one of the many metaverse technologies which Meta is developing to create a completely functioning metaverse.
Leiomy, who is openly transgender and an LGBTQ activist, stated that the Metaverse creates new chances for disadvantaged groups as you can control your appearance. This ability lets the person who may have physical indicators of a discriminating population to hide those indicators. This is likely to result in less discrimination, that may help in certain situations.
The dancer added that the Metaverse is a “safe pace” which enables experimentation and exploration of several social groups. Since numerous people are not comfortable with themselves in the real world, the Metaverse lowers barriers to finding your tribe.
Leiomy is so open about her journey to exploring her identity as a trans-woman. It was a hard process, particularly because those around her did not really understand it. She had to find a “chosen family” to back her and keep her grounded as she had been through so much in life. The Metaverse could help people do the same.
Meta’s metaverse Culture Collection originally released in February, Black History Month. From then and on, the social media giant has hosted different people for talks and interviews about the intersection of Web3 technologies and how they can create opportunities for in need populations.
Meta has been busy in 2022
The Metaverse Culture Series by Meta is only one example of the company’s Web3 moves in the current year. Below are three things that Mark Zuckerberg and Meta show how serious they are about the Metaverse.
Initially, Meta created a pilot program for special users to test NFTs on Instagram. Though the number of users is currently low, the company is looking to expand and even add NFT functionality to Facebook.
Second, It was reported lately that Fender and BMW cooperated with Meta to create virtual reality experiences. The simulations, that included sound and motion, were innovative and attempted to make the platform in question more “fun”.
Eventually, Meta presented more life-like avatars to Facebook Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram. Some avatars even included disabilities, like one having Cochlear implants (a corporate treatment for hearing loss).
The Metaverse Culture Collection is an appealing forum to talk about Metaverse matters, and adds to the evidence that the Meta is dominant on the metaverse.
