European Riu Plaza hotel enters the metaverse

One of Europe’s most iconic hotels, the Hotel Riu Plaza España, has decided to take its real-life 360-degree view of the wonderful city of Madrid and bring it to the AltSpace metaverse.

Currently, customers don’t have to book a room to enjoy the hotel’s historic architecture and stunning rooftop views, they can do it virtually. The virtual world will also incorporate real elements, such as Michael the receptionist, who can book your room in-person or in the metaverse, plus the spaces created with digital tech.

In addition to being able to visit the hotel lobby, the rooftop, and the balcony overlooking the 100-meter- high walkway, there will be surprises through the metaverse experience, and first-time users will get a secret gift.

To build this project, RIU collaborated with La Agencia Encubierta, a top digital marketing for the metaverse. With this move, RIU Hotels & Resorts is the initial hotel to open on the metaverse and looks to be a pioneer for the hotel industry in the Web3 space.

Joan Trian Riu, CEO of RIU Hotels & Resorts, stated that they were satisfied with the project and just starting to explore their “true potential” in the metaverse.

The movement remains powerful in the Metaverse

The new metaverse experience at the RIU Plaza Hotel in Madrid is exclusive and the initial move from an iconic hotel to the metaverse. But the hotel is surly not the only business that ties real-life places and events to virtual and augmented reality experiences.

It has been reported on several projects that similarly connect an IRL location to a metaverse experience. Here are some of the latest titles:

• The Vatican is creating a Metaverse Art Gallery
• The Brooklyn Nets release ‘Netaverse’ to bring the action on the court to your home
• Atlanta Braves open a Metaverse Trust Park
• Manchester City is building the initial football stadium in Metaverse
• Niantic and the NBA is creating AR metaverse game

Much of the buzz in the metaverse is occurring in sports, but advances in augmented and virtual reality, along with NFT, blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, are expanding the way businesses connect with fans across countless sectors – including fashion and luxury brand cars and presently hotels.

One of the clear advantages of the virtual experience is its uniqueness. There are a limited number of beds at the RIU Plaza Hotel. For those of us not lucky enough to visit the hotel in real life, this Metaverse experience could be the upcoming perfect thing.
