In the latest NFT news, Beverly Hills, California has filed seven trademark applications related to NFTs and digital collectibles. The news was posted on Twitter by Mike Kondousis, a trademark and program lawyer, on June 19.
As stated in the report, the trademark applications were filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on June 14, 2022.
Beverly Hills has not yet commented on how to use the trademarks, but it is obvious from the application that they intend to use Web3 and the metaverse to potentially sell digital products and experiences.
As NFTs, blockchain tech, and cryptocurrencies continue to transform the landscape, providing new ways for companies, brands, celebrities, and athletes to connect with customers and fans, it is no surprise that an international famous city like Beverly Hills would step in the Web3.
Despite accessing the crypto and NFT markets, Web3 applications are pouring into the USPTO innovative rate.
Among the latest, Snoop Dogg, a rapper and Web 3 supporter, has registered for trademarks for the words “Uncle Snoop” and “Uncle Snoop’s”, in a move that could open a store in the metaverse to sell a variety of goods, such as virtual cannabis and smoking stuffs, plus virtual clothing, headwear, and shoes.
But the iconic West Coast rapper is not alone in pushing into Web 3. In the last few months, Lebron James, Kanye West, Rihanna, David Beckham, the NBA, The Premier League, Subway, Hotters and American Express have all registered trademarks related to NFT, Blockchain Tech, and the metaverse.
Though 2022 has come as a nasty surprise for many crypto investors and NFT fans, the downturn does not seem to be affecting the myriad of people investing in Web3.
We will have to wait and see what Beverly Hills is planning after its trademark applications are approved, but one thing is sure, the city is not alone in its Web3 ambitions.
