At the Cannes Film Festival in south France, Meta announced virtual experiences from Fender and MINI, a BMW company, which bring more entertainment to the VR Horizon Worlds platform. These two simulations use several human senses, especially vision and sound.
In the Fender virtual experience, users land on a guitar-shaped island in the sky. The job is to create riffs – strings of notes or chords – by finding hidden guitar spikes in the landscape. By finding the options, users can create their own music settings. There are several “golden picks” on the island and an unknown number of Easter eggs or hidden wonders.
The CMO at Fender, Evan Jones, said the company “could not be happier” for inviting Meta Fender to the metaverse. The company is dedicated to encouraging all forms of musical expression. It is eager about the possibilities of this new tech to allow people around the world to connect in one place.
Also, there is the simulation from MINI. In it, a maximum of four users can travel in one vehicle via a “gravity-defying” racetrack. Viewers can intervene with the race, “flicking” cars off the tracks or putting obstacles in the way. In addition, users can customize their MINI EV, to use for the race.
Rah Mahtani, Brand Communications Manager at MINI USA, stated that the company is “interested” to be the initial car brand to create a virtual experience in Meta’s Horizon Worlds. This brand is about “fun” and likes to bring this ethics to life in “fun and unconventional” ways.
The virtual experiences are available via the Meta Quest 2 Headset users in the US, Canada, and UK.
Meta has been busy in 2022
When Mark Zuckerberg changed the name of Facebook to Meta in late 2021, he showed the world that he was serious about this fledgling tech. And 2022 has not been a disappointing year for the company, at least in terms of the number of moves it has made.
Earlier the current year, Zuckerberg revealed that Facebook and Instagram would take advantage of NFT’s suddenly popular industry. He followed the announcement with the launch of an NFT program on Instagram and the upcoming implemented market.
Horizon Worlds, Meta’s virtual reality platform, reached a milestone a few months ago, and gathered the largest number of users in its history. While Horizon Worlds did not reveal many details about the number of users, some observers saw it as a sign of the growth of the VR Meta side.
Ultimately, the Foo Fighters staged a show in Horizon Venues, a sister platform to the band’s initial XR show, XR is a term which refers to a combination of augmented and virtual reality. The band stated that at the time which the show would be a positive challenge.
Time will show how popular the two new VR experiences from Fender and MINI are, but surely Meta will continue to move in the direction of the metaverse.
