Citi and METACO are creating digital asset storage

Through this partnership, Citi’s large custody network and METACO’s technology are combined to make a platform that lets customers hold and settle digital assets quickly and safely. Citi plans to fully integrate METACO’s bank-grade Harmonize platform for digital asset orchestration and custody into its current infrastructure. This will allow Citi to create and test capabilities for taking care of digital assets.

Existing investment assets are becoming more and more digital, and so are new digital assets that are created from scratch. Okan Pekin, Global Head of Securities Services at Citi, said, “We are witnessing the increasing digitization of traditional investment assets along with new native digital assets. We are innovating and developing new capabilities to support digital asset classes that are becoming increasingly relevant to our clients,”

Using its current technical, operational, and service strategy, this strategic partnership lets Citi add digital assets to what it can already do. Citi will be able to grow safely and successfully into new areas thanks to the strength of the Harmonize platform and its large global network. This is because Citi already has global operations, technology, and risk frameworks in place. Citi’s Institutional Client Group’s digital asset strategy will depend a lot on the technological capabilities made possible by this relationship.

Adrien Treccani, CEO and Founder of METACO, said, “We are thrilled to work with Citi, one of the best securities services companies, to help them connect digital and traditional assets.” This project is figuring out how institutions will use digital assets.

METACO is the top technology provider to financial institutions in the ecosystem for digital assets. It has helped with several important implementations, including ones involving institutions regulated by FINMA, BaFin, FCA, Banco de Espaa, and MAS.

Citi Securities Services provides clients with in-depth knowledge of local markets, cutting-edge processing technologies, and a wide range of custody and fund services that can be customized to meet their needs. Citi Securities Services holds, manages, and trusts more than US$27 trillion in assets and has a proprietary network that connects 63 markets and is the best in its field.
