Renowned musician Jack Johnson offers IRL gifts to anyone with one of “Outside” magazine’s Bedrock Badge NFTs. In all, “Outside” presents 551 gifts to NFT holders, containing a VIP pass to see Johnson perform at the Hollywood Bowl.
When people sign up for an Outside.io account, they automatically get a Bedrock badge NFT. “Outside” states that anyone who asks for this NFT before Johnson’s “Meet the Moonlight” album release on June 24, has the opportunity to win Jack Johnson’s gifts.
As said above, the main prize will be a ticket to see Jack Johnson’s next concert in LA. An NFT holder will get two box seats at Johnson’s Hollywood Bowl performance.
Jack Johnson will award fifty Bedrock Badge holders with signed vinyl album “Meet the Moonlight”. The remaining 500 winners will receive a unique “Meet the Moonlight” poster.
“Outside” states that all 551 winners will receive a free digital version of “Meet the Moonlight”.
Even if the winners do not win one of these prizes, “Outside” says Jack Johnson is planning upcoming NFT releases. People with Bedrock Badge NFTs will have priority entry to these NFTs that have not yet been introduced.
Released in June, Outside.io is a Solana-based NFT market run by the decades-old “Outside” magazine. “Outside” says it aims to use the site to create a Web3 community given to environmentalism, sustainability, and outdoor activities.
Given the environmental ethos of “Outside’s” and Jack Johnson’s charitable Kokua Hawaii Foundation, this NFT partnership may look strange. Thus, one of the primary criticisms of blockchain tech is that it is dangerous for the environment.
While these worries are valid for some blockchains, many NFT platforms emphasize on carbon neutrality. For example, “Outside” chose the Solana blockchain, that officially became carbon-neutral in 2021.
Rarity Sniper reported that the Australian Zoo releasing “Wildlife Warrior” NFTs to back its conservation efforts as well. This well-known Queensland Zoo used the energy-efficient Algorand blockchain for its initial NFT series.
Previously, author Margaret Atwood released her NFT course on Tezos primarily because of its energy efficiency. Also, the Polygon blockchain aims to become the initial carbon-negative chain.
ETH blockchain is the major NFT blockchain which environmentalists have trouble with. According to ETH’s Proof of Work consensus, it is not the preferable for chain for eco-conscious customers.
Nevertheless, the ETH Foundation states that after the upgrades to Proof of Stake, its energy cost will be reduced by 99.95%. If “The merge” is successful, it will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of NFTs on ETH.
