. Vueling is working with BitPay, a service for paying with cryptocurrency, and UATP, a global provider of payment solutions, to start accepting Bitcoin payments by the beginning of 2023.
According to a press release, Vueling, a Spanish airline owned by International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG), has teamed up with BitPay, one of the leading bitcoin payment infrastructure providers, to accept bitcoin as payment.
Jess Monzó, Vueling’s manager of distribution strategy and alliances, says, “With this partnership, Vueling strengthens its position as a digital airline.” . “We are very pleased to have found in BitPay the best partner to offer our customers the possibility of making transactions with cryptocurrencies with the greatest security and reliability”.
The airline will also work with Universal Air Travel Plan Incorporated (UATP), a payments network for travel-related charges, to set up the infrastructure needed to accept bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as payment by early next year.
Thanks to a partnership with BitPay and UATP, Vueling will be the first low-cost airline in Europe to accept bitcoin as a form of payment. The choice will first be available to people on Vueling’s website.

Customers will be able to pay with many of the wallets and payment methods available through the BitPay ecosystem. Ticket prices will still be shown in euros.
