Tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympics may be sold as NFTs, at least this is what the French government’s representative at the Olympics recommends. The official, Michel Cadot, thinks that blockchain technology is safer than traditional ticketing methods.
Thus, participants will get their digital ticket through SMS and QR codes just a few days before the start of the event. Besides, Cadot recommends the prime minister’s office to run blockchain ticketing for all main sports events in Paris.
Can we mint NFT tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympics?
The representative of the French government in the Olympics, Michel Cadot, proposed the implementation of NFT tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympics. This news is taken from his 30-page report that was presented to the Prime Minister’s Office the previous week.
Hence, the report also has five recommendations for improving security protocols for future sporting events in France. One of these recommendations is to use blockchain technology for all non-transferable tickets.
The way the ticketing system work
Majorly, Michel Cadot wrote that every participant in the event should get their ticket as a rotating QR code through blockchain technology. The Olympic organizers will send the NFT tickets just days before the event starts.
In addition, the NFT tickets are activated in a certain area of the event place. Overall, this creative system should increase the risk of ticket fraud. In deed, this recommendation comes right after the ticket fraud which took place during the UEFA Champions League in Paris.
“This coordination should be added to other important international sporting events that are important upstream of the Rugby World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games. It is possible to pre-programmed systems and fail in the working methods, like multi-actor management reflections to deal with problems,” wrote Michel Cadot in the report.
Olympic participants are no strangers to NFTs. For instance, the UK Olympic team released its own NFT series the previous summer.
