Meta, which used to be called Facebook, and the French company Simplon, which offers digital training, are bringing Web3 to higher education. In France, they want to set up “metaverse academies” where students can learn about specialties in the metaverse.
The focus of the academies will be on the metaverse, but training will be done in person. The two companies want to set up academies in places like Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Nice. The current goal is to teach 20 students in each city per year, or 100 students in the first year of the program.
Laurent Solly, Meta’s Vice President of Southern Europe, said that administrators would pay extra attention to diversity. One of the program’s goals is to have 30% of the first class be women. The co-founder of Simplon, Frederic Bardeau, said that he wouldn’t look at resumes but would support “positive discrimination.”
Instructors will teach people in the cohort how to be specialists in developing immersive technology and help and support technicians. A more realistic and detailed metaverse environment will be made as part of the project. Improving the experience of users inside the metaverse, which could mean giving them more ways to interact with each other in more ways, will also be important.
Both Meta and Simpson think that the economy of work will be very different in 2030. Even so, the two companies have said that 80% of the jobs in 2030 have not even been thought of yet. The academies will try to use Web3 in education and training so that people can start getting ready for the job market in 2030.
Meta keeps pushing for Web3 Development.
Since Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook would be changing its name to Meta, there has been a lot of investment and speculation in the Web3 business. And the name change wasn’t just for show; Zuckerberg’s business has been working hard to use the metaverse in a big way.
Meta first opened a store in California to show off its technology to the average customer. Most of the VR equipment, smart glasses, and other tech in the store could be bought and taken with you.
Second, a few months ago, Meta changed the avatars on Facebook and Facebook Messenger and added 3D avatars to Instagram. The avatars had a lot more facial expressions and skin tones. They also had avatars that were “friendly to people with disabilities,” like those with cochlear implants.
Last but not least, the company made a feature called “Horizon Homes” for their “Horizon Worlds” metaverse. When the system is updated, users can choose one of three “homes” as their default screen. The goal is to give people places to meet other people or play games.
Meta’s metaverse academies may or may not work out, but the company is optimistic about the metaverse.
