Celebrity Chef Christian Petroni Wants You to Eat His NFT

As part of the Culinary Network star’s upcoming debut with food app 8it, Crypto.com NFT holders will have access to secret pizza parties and more.

Is it a food NFT if it cannot be consumed? With the launch of their first “Edible NFT,” renowned chef Christian Petroni and the 8it team pose this question. Of course, the tokens themselves will be inedible, but the pizza they represent will be. Holders will get access to Petroni’s members-only Pizza Party pop-ups, which will debut on March 20 in the chef’s hometown of New York City on a first-come, first-served basis. Petroni’s one-of-a-kind garlic butter Sicilian pie will be served at the IRL pop-up, which is inspired by the classic square-shaped Sicilian slices he grew up eating and a nod to his guilty pleasure, Domino’s Handmade Pan Pizza. The NFTs will be accessible on March 14 — Pi Day — at Crypto.com/NFT, with claymation artwork by creative director David Schwen to be released.

NFT holders will also have access to a private channel on 8it’s Edible NFT Discord, where they can vote on which city the party should visit next, as well as other planned perks such as Gabagool merch, airdrops of Petroni family recipes, and invitations to private dinners and cooking classes, both virtual and in-person at Gabagool HQ. Petroni had some “NFTea Time” with Nonna Fiorella to discuss his concept for the project and how it would function. Full specifics are subject to change and will be supplied by 8it on their website or the “Petroni’s Pizza Party” drop page — but for any doubters out there, such as the chef’s mother, Petroni sat down with Nonna Fiorella for some quality “NFTea Time” to answer any questions.

Petroni has been on various Food Network series as a judge or chef, including “Chopped,” “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives,” “Guy’s Grocery Games,” “Guy’s Ranch Kitchen,” “Beat Bobby Flay,” and “Supermarket Stakeout.” He is now a participant in Guy Fieri’s star-studded culinary competition “Tournament of Champions.” In truth, he rose to prominence after winning the 14th season of “Food Network Star” in 2018 — the same show that began Fieri’s career in 2006, when the spiky blond-haired culinary rockstar won the show’s second season. Petroni regards Fieri so highly that he compares him to an older brother.

Petroni was also featured as one of four chefs and restaurateurs in Guy Fieri’s famous documentary “Restaurant Hustle 2020: All on the Line” and its sequel, “Restaurant Hustle 2021: Back in Business,” which depicted the restaurant industry’s problems as a consequence of the COVID-19 outbreak. The documentary focuses on his work with the New York Italian restaurant chain Fortina, which he co-founded and grew to five locations in the Tri-State area over eight years before creating Gabagool Media, a multimedia and consulting organization. This was a celebrity NFT drop.
